Have you ever suddenly stopped in your tracks and thought to yourself “What on earth am I doing and where am I going?” April 05, 2017 09:04
Well that is exactly what happened to me today. I do not mind working long hours but there must always be a new insight and goal at the end of the creative process. If I am not constantly trying and learning new & interesting things then I may as well be a factory that mass produces. This blog post is going to be a bit of a ramble but will give you an insight into the creative Brand known as Ceramix.
Recently a friend told me that I am like a Duracell Bunny constantly on the move. To say I am pedantic is an understatement. I like things to be as perfect as I can get them regularly putting an item back into the kiln two or even three times so that I can get the finish I require. This extends to everything I do. I never do anything without putting an effort into it. I cannot tolerate anything that is slapdash. If I am not happy with a product why would anyone want to purchase it?
My journey into introducing colour began Last year. I was so happy with the green leaf platters (oh dear I have forgotten to have them photographed so I cannot put them on the site) and then made some little flower bowls in various colours (ditto). The whole thing is how do you sell these items online when they are a one of a kind item? I have come to realize that it is quite simple you list the available quantity and when they are sold out they will no longer be available to order.
I have so enjoyed creating the Easter Bunny range you can have a look at it Here where the high glaze firing temperature completely changed the colour of the glaze. Soft pastel shades became deep beautiful translucent colours. I like to hand paint the coloured glazes as then one can see the beautiful detail that is found in the ware. Most of the detail is lost when dipping. Naturally brushing on the glaze is much more labour intensive but the result is ever so satisfying. I am busy experimenting with my firing process with the coloured glazes so items will now appear in different tones once again in limited quantities. Naturally everything will be high fired for durability something that is a given when you purchase Ceramix ware.
I have come a long way since I started Ceramix four years ago. One always goes into new ventures thinking that they understand the market and how everything works. Being a creative I always go against the market norm. The one thing that has not changed in my mind is that Ceramix is going to become the premium South African Ceramic Brand for a discerning clientele who are looking for a quality product that is made by hand in limited quantities.
When one sees how big factories work they produce vast quantities of a limited range of items with a limited colour palette. I do not like the repetition of doing the same thing over & over so only the items that are on the web site will be available for you to purchase. I am not a factory and do not wish to churn out vast quantities of the same thing. I restock the website regularly so you will always be able to find something that you are looking for. If not you can contact me and I will do everything in my power to accommodate you. As all my items are made by hand this will not happen in a hurry.
Ceramix is my passion and obsession. I am looking forward to the journey with my wonderful clientele. Thank you so much for your encouragement and support. I would be interested to know what you think about my vision for the future of Ceramix.
Congratulations. December 27, 2016 21:03

A Downloadable 2016 Calendar just for you. January 26, 2016 09:07
I find it hard to believe that it is already 2016.
We have made a calendar especially for you. Download the Ceramix calendar here.
In January 2014 I decided to start a journey to realize a dream that I have had for so many years. I have always wanted to manufacture my own brand of ceramics. I had no idea what I was letting myself in for. I have not regretted starting my new company Ceramix for one moment. It has given me a new lease of life and spring in my step. I have something new and exciting to work towards.
I stumbled on this quote by David Bowie the other day and I feel it was meant for me
“If you feel safe in the area you’re working in, you’re not working in the right area. Always go a little further into the water than you feel you’re capable of being in. Go a little bit out of your depth. And when you don’t feel that your feet are quite touching the bottom, you’re just about in the right place to do something exciting.”
I have come to realize that we all need big dreams and if we let the world around us get us down life can become very difficult.
In 2016 I am “Living my dream.” What about you?

Packaging and Shipping the Ceramix way. Free Shipping + No Risk = Happy Customers. November 02, 2015 07:30 4 Comments
Ceramix offers a 100% guarantee that your item will arrive safely. You will not have a problem with regards to breakages. If it does arrive broken we will replace the same item free of charge including the shipping.
You might ask why we feel so confident that we are prepared to offer this guarantee. We have spent an enormous amount of time researching the best way to pack your precious cargo. Every order is double boxed so that there is an additional layer of packaging for safety.
This is how we packed two mugs that were shipped to Cape Town and then onto the UK.
Each mug was wrapped in tissue paper. Items with larger additions have bubble pack wrapped around them before the tissue paper.
Paper is then wrapped around the pieces.
The items are then placed in a box and sealed. More paper is added if the item can move. Items travel more safely if tightly packed.
The box is then wrapped in bubble pack for an additional layer of safety and then placed in a larger box and sealed.
Neon FRAGILE stickers are then applied to the box so that there is no doubt that this is Fragile cargo.
The carton is then sealed and Dawn Wing is notified to collect. Dawn Wing offer a door to door delivery service.
The friendly staff from Dawn Wing then collect and get your package to you within 3 to 5 working days. Should you require an overnight service please contact us before placing your order on the web site.
Should you wish to collect your order directly from us please e-mail us on email@example.com
I hope this answers many of your shipping questions. Should you require additional information please feel free to contact us.
Social Media August 10, 2015 08:53
Hello. Thank you for deciding to read my Blog. Social media can be so much fun and yet it is scary at the same time.
I have sat down and started writing many different blog posts over the last couple of months but have never completed any of them. I probably will not get things right straight away but with your help and comments I know you will lead me in the right direction.
Anyone who has started a new business will understand how overwhelming Social Media can be. Not only are there all the different social outlets but somewhere one has to find the time to actually work and run your business. I think that most of us creatives would like to spend all our time making beautiful things but then there is the problem of how on earth are we going to sell them.
I post on Twitter, Flickr, Tumblr, Pinterest and Facebook. I find social media quite overwhelming and am trying to learn everything as quickly as possible. I love chatting to all my Facebook followers as these wonderful people make me feel so inspired and give me so much positive feedback. I am obsessed with posting images of all the things I love on Pinterest. There are so many beautiful things out there to look at and get inspiration from. I need to spend more time on the other social channels.
I follow about one hundred different blogs and this in itself is a full time job. I find the blog world fascinating. What I have noticed with blogs is that one really does need to create their own content rather than sharing images from other blogs as many of the same images keep going around and around. Why on earth would anyone want to read my blog if they can get the same content elsewhere. This is where I hit my biggest stumbling block to date. After having finally got a full range of photographs done for my web site and catalogue I do not have any styled photographs for my blog. The only reason I have managed to get all the beautiful photographs for my web site is that my very talented friend Megan Wallace gave up months of her time and took about four thousand photographs. I have to overcome my fear of taking photographs as photography has never been my forte.
Hopefully in the not too distant future I will start to post some beautifully styled photographs of the Ceramix range. I am not quite sure how this will happen but one of my favourite sayings is that “Rome was not built in a day”. Everything happens in its own time.
Constructive criticism is always greatly appreciated. I know I am probably opening myself up to many questions that might be difficult to answer but I am excited about the prospect. Getting feedback is always so important in a business.
What social media do you participate in? Which Blogs do you follow?
Ceramix launch their web site www.ceramix.co.za June 19, 2015 08:39
Starting Ceramix has been a huge milestone in my life. The emotional transition from selling unfinished product to finished ware has been a giant leap. I have a new spring in my step as I am enjoying every minute of establishing the Ceramix brand.
On May 1 2014 I presented my first collections and have been building on this foundation ever since. The most challenging and exciting aspect of the Ceramix Range is deciding on what I actually want my range to look like. If you visit my Pinterest boards at www.pinterest.com/ceramixcoza you will notice how many styles there are out there. The most important thing for me is to set myself apart so that I have differentiated myself internationally. All creatives have to draw inspiration from somewhere but it is how you utilize this inspiration that is important. If you want to succeed you have to have your very own style which must be within the scope of current market trends. I have always been a creator and an innovator. I love the current trend of mixing old ideas with new. For me the old is the terracotta clay and the embellishments and the new is the white glaze and simple shapes of the functional ware. Terracotta clay with white glaze is very difficult to work with but I love the texture and contrast between the clay and glaze.
A 189 and growing range is rather large but every time I sit down surrounded by the pieces to do the attaching I think of so many more variations on a theme. One of the big problems with my collections was my inability to be consistent. I kept on adding different additions to different functional pieces resulting in over a thousand different pieces. It is strange how a silly little thing like that can put a spanner in the works. My range is now set in stone in my catalogue and price list which makes my life so much simpler. Focus and a passion for what I am doing have resulted in a range with a little bit of the unusual and a lot of the unexpected.
Please let me know what you think about the Ceramix range
